Gabrielle Union’s I’ll Have Another Productions has inked a deal with Amazon Studios for the upcoming comedy, To Be Real. Billy Porter has been tapped to direct the project while Ryan Shiraki writes the script. Shiraki and Rian Gass of I’ll Have Another Productions will also executive produce the film.
“[To Be Real is] an edgy, laugh-out-loud comedy about three queer high school seniors who go on the ultimate quest to attend their first New York Pride parade,” the film’s description reads.
Union is getting her feet wet in the world of production lately. Her production imprint is also working on a television adaptation of the award-winning book, The Sisters Are Alright: Changing the Broken Narrative of Black Women In America.
Much like Union, Porter is also venturing into new territory. The critically acclaimed actor turned director is currently working on What If? The film follows the story of a trans high school senior managing a challenging relationship.
As for Amazon Studios, they are continuing to work on products that could potentially land on Amazon Prime. Most recently, the streaming platform debuted The Tomorrow War and Without Remorse. Upcoming projects include a limited series about Muhammad Ali and the second season of Invincible.
