Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland have shared the stage at numerous concerts and award shows, but the Destiny’s Child duo entered a new venue on Friday, October 25. Joined by Tina Knowles, Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland took the stage Shell Energy Stadium during a Kamala Harris’ rally in Houston, Texas. The duo didn’t perform any of their chart-topping hits, but they did lend their support for the Democratic nominee for President.
Like Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland is a proud Houston native and was passionate addressing her hometown crowd. She delivered a fiery speech about forging “a new path” with Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I am so proud to be here in Houston with my Mama T and my sister [Beyoncé]. Welcome to this day! This is a remarkable, joyous day,” Rowland said.
“[It’s] a date, a day [and] a moment with weight and meaning for our country, our people and the world. [It’s] a moment for Houston where we [can] grab the pen from those who are trying to write an American story of division and hatred. [It’s a moment] when we grab back the pen from those who are trying to write an American story of misogyny and racism. We are grabbing back the pen from those who are trying to write an American story that would deny the right for women to make decisions about our bodies. Houston, we are grabbing back the pen to forge a new path with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
Beyoncé also delivered praise for the Harris-Walz campaign while criticizing former President Donald Trump. More specifically, she said “we’re experiencing here is a health care crisis, and Donald Trump is the architect of it.”
“We know freedom is not to be given. It is not to be bestowed. It is ours by right, and we are prepared to fight for it,” the global star said.
“We must be loud. We must organize. We must mobilize. We must energize.”
Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland join a growing list of public figures endorsing the Vice President in her bid to become the next President. In recent weeks, Eminem, Stevie Wonder, Usher and Lizzo have all campaigned for Harris. Moving forward, she’s expected to sit down for an interview with First Take Host Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay.
