U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has run for President in each of the last elections. In 2024, he may be open to learning if the third time is indeed the charm. During a recent interview with CBS News, Sanders’ longtime advisor Faiz Shakir said that he would take a “hard look” at running for President if Joe Biden decided not to run for re-election.
“I assume that he would give it a hard look,” Shakir told CBS News.
“I don’t want to make a judgment for him. Obviously, it would be his choice to make. But I assume that he would want to reevaluate it.”
Last week, First Lady Jill Biden and President Joe Biden reportedly toasted to a re-election campaign during a State Dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron. However, Biden nor his previous running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, have confirmed that they will run again in 2024.
If Biden were re-elected, he would set the record as the oldest President in U.S. history yet again. Similarly, Sanders would be the oldest President in U.S. history if he were to be elected. According to Shakir, Sanders is “very aware” of his age as he nears his 82nd birthday.
“He’d have to make a real judgment about his own vigor and his stamina and his desire and hunger and passion to do this a third time,” Shakir said.
“But if it were an open field? Yeah, I’m confident he would take another look at it.”
