The wide receiver position for the Bengals is very much in the air at this point. A.J. Green is a superstar but who else is going to step into a starting role? Former compliments Mohamed Sanu bolted for Atlanta, while Marvin Jones headed to Detroit during the offseason. Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin was recently asked if veteran wide out Anquan Boldin could be an option.
“I don’t like to proclaim yes or no on anybody that’s out there, but we have not had any discussions with him,” Tobin said. “We feel pretty good about some young guys that we have in that position group. It’s a position group that’s in flux, and it’s a position group that’s going to have to step up — particularly with [tight end Tyler] Eifert out early in the year. We’re going to have to have some production from there and we have some good candidates. So we want to see when we get going in the preseason who steps up and who raises their hand and says, ‘I’m the guy.’ Hopefully multiple people will do that.”
Tight end Tyler Eifert is also recovering from ankle surgery making the need for immediate receiver development more important. One guy that comes to mind is Tyler Boyd who was recently drafted in the 2nd round. Offseason signee Brandon LaFell is another option to start.
