It is safe to say that Alycia Baumgardner enjoyed the year immensely. Not only did she defend, her junior lightweight title for the first time, but she also handed Mikaela Mayer the first loss of her pro career. Heading into the new year, she has high hopes for her boxing career.
Multiple outlets have reported that Baumgardner will fight Elhem Mekhaled for the undisputed junior lightweight title on February 4, 2023 in New York at a venue to be determined. The Michigan native was originally set to fight Choi Hyun-mi for the undisputed title, but an injury kept Hyun-mi out of the historic bout.
“Undisputed baby,” she tweeted on Thursday afternoon.
Baumgardner will not be the only boxer pursuing an undisputed title on February 4 in New York. Alongside the Michigan native, Amanda Serrano will return home to New York and fight Erika Cruz for the undisputed featherweight title. Unlike Baumgardner, it will not be the first time she has fought in New York. She fought Katie Taylor at Madison Square Garden last spring.
