Demetrius Andrade is ready to begin the next chapter of his career. Leaving behind DAZN and the middleweight division, he is set to make his super middleweight debut on January 7, 2023 in Washington, D.C. At Capital One Arena, the former middleweight champion will challenge super middleweight veteran Demond Nicholson.
“I believe he’s a tough, durable guy. He went the distance with Edgar Berlanga and I think he’s a good guy to step into the ring at 168 lbs. He’s a live dog,” Andrade said about Nicholson, per Bad Left Hook.
January 7, 2023 will not only mark Andrade’s super middleweight debut, but it will also kick off his working relationship with Premier Boxing Champions and Showtime. By aligning himself with PBC and Showtime, Andrade may land a bout with Jermall Charlo, Caleb Plant, David Benavidez or David Morrell Jr.
“Yeah, definitely. [I want to fight Jermall] Charlo. We [have] been in each other’s weight class since [we were both super welterweights] and now [middlweights]. Eventually, he’s [going to] have to move up. We [have] got Canelo. He’s been my mandatory at 154 and fought Liam Smith when I got stripped,” he said, per Bad Left Hook.
Before Andrade can look ahead to bouts with Jermall Charlo or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, he must get by Demond Nicholson. DraftKings currently list Andrade as a -2500 favorite in his super middleweight debut.
