Portland’s own Aminé made major strides with the release of Limbo earlier this year. His latest project tells the story of a young man stepping into adulthood along with his friends. Much of the maturation he shows on this album is in some way triggered by the death of Kobe Bryant. As the album points out, the death of the five-time NBA Champion ended an era and with Bryant’s passing part of people’s childhood passed away as well.
“It weirdly, like, fast-forwarded my maturity. It weirdly was like one of those things where, like he?died?and I feel?like my, like, a lot of?my innocence in, like, being a young person died with Kobe,” his friend Jak Knight said on “Kobe.”
Even in the album’s maturity, the project still showcases the Portland native’s fun-loving nature. From the comedic nature of the “Compensating” video to the day party known as the “Woodlawn” video, the album is very bright and uplifting.
Adding on to what has already been a well-received album, he has returned with the deluxe edition of Limbo. Valee, Toosii, Saba and Unknown Mortal Orchestra join Aminé on the deluxe release. Check out the new additions to the project below and let us know what you think.
