Delfine Persoon is scheduled to challenge Alycia Baumgardner for the WBC Super Featherweight Championship on Friday, September 27 in Atlanta, Georgia. Live from the Lux Stage at Trilith Studios, the fight will be available for free on Brinx.TV and Fubo Sports.
“Delfine, she’s a great sportsman, trailblazer for the sport,” Baumgardner said about her opponent.
Persoon is a 16-year, 52-fight veteran and two-time world champion. With a record of 48-3 with one no contest and 19 knockouts, Persoon has only fallen short against future hall of fame inductee Katie Taylor and Zelda Tekin. Still, she will enter the ring as the most experienced and arguably most accomplished opponent of Baumgardner’s career.
“And again, being off a year and coming back to fight and defend my title against an opponent like that is very telling. Just to say that I’m here to accept challenges, there’s no excuses, and that I’ll come out victorious and still have my belts,” she continued.
Baumgardner will enter the ring for the first time since July 15, 2023. In a 10-round title bout, she defeated Christina Linardatou by unanimous decision at The Masonic Temple in Detroit, Michigan. However, the Freemont, Ohio native found herself embroiled in controversy shortly thereafter due to testing positive for a banned substance. After a lengthy back-and-forth and investigation, the World Boxing Council (WBC) found her “not guilty of intentional ingestion or consumption of a banned substance for performance-enhancement purposes.” As a result, the Association of Boxing Commissions lifted her suspension in March. Now, she will attempt to grab the 10th straight win of her career.
