Hell’s Kitchen native Alicia Keys and Roc Nation have banded together in an attempt to save the performing arts program at The Professional Performing Arts School in New York.
The Professional Performing Arts School is a widely-respected institution in Manhattan. The public school boasts Alicia Keys, Jeremy Allen White, Claire Danes and Britney Spears as a few of its most famous graduates. Unfortunately, the school may be forced to cut its performing arts program and lose out on a new class of talented graduates due to a lack of financial resources. In response, a group of 7th Grade students has set up a GoFundMe to raise capital for the program. Within one week, the GoFundMe campaign was more than halfway to its goal of $102,000. Then, Roc Nation and Alicia Keys stepped in and pledged to send an additional $60,000 to the program, pushing it well past its initial goal.
“Today, we found out that Roc Nation is going to be donating $60,000 and will also pledge to continue to fund the program until the DOE can sufficiently keep the program going,” 7th grade student Tennyson Artigliere told ABC 7.
“I’m so impressed when young people recognize the agency and voice that they have. They take initiative and action on their own,” Artigliere’s father, Marcus, added.
