Former President Donald Trump may have grown up in New York, but it appears that he will lose the state for a third consecutive election.
Less than nine months away from Election Day, Trump reportedly trails President Joe Biden by 12 points in the Empire State. According to a Siena College poll, 48 percent of respondents expect to vote for Biden in November while only 36 percent of voters expect to vote for the former host of The Apprentice. The remaining 16 percent of voters remain undecided.
Biden also maintains a noticeable lead in a four-candidate election including third-party candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West. Biden currently leads Trump by 10 points in the open-election scenario.
In comparison, Biden led the presumptive Republican nominee by 23 points during the 2020 election. Similarly, Hilary Clinton led the former President by 23 points in 2016.
“While Biden holds a 12-point lead over Trump in a head-to-head matchup, and leads by 10 points in a four-way race, it’s worth remembering just how ‘blue’ New York is,” Siena College’s Steven Greenberg said.
“Democrats have a 27-point enrollment advantage over Republicans, Biden beat Trump by 23 points in 2020, and no Republican presidential candidate has carried the state since Ronald Reagan in 1984, 40 years ago.”
