A lot can be said in just a few words. At the end of July, rising vocalist Alexia Jayy posted a quick video on TikTok. In the short clip, she said, “I need a man.” The emotion behind those four simple words was enough to trigger a response from her fans and amass more than 100,000 likes.
“You said so little and said so much. I started crying,” one person noted.
“I need this to be a song,” another person commented.
More than a month after that snippet hit TikTok, Alexia Jayy made one fan’s hopes come true with another short message.
“It’s release day,” she wrote.
Co-written by James “Jay Lyriq” Cohen and Alexia Jayy, “I Need A Man” is the rising star’s newest single. Backed by innovative production from Abraham Poythress, Alexia Jayy pours her heart out in every word like an authentic Blues singer of the past.
“I’m so f*cking ready for a man,” she sings.
“One who only loves on me/And I know it, I can feel it when he looks at me/Communicates his feelings, my provider, my protector.”
As Alexia Jayy puts it, the soulful track is her manifesting her future partner.
“This record is about manifesting the perfect man. Making kings understand that they are needed and helping couples realize that they have a good one on their side,” she explained.
