UConn freshman Akok Akok went down with an injury just a minute into today’s game vs Memphis. It is believed he suffered an apparent achilles injury with an MRI to follow Monday. The freshman is currently leading the AAC in blocks in his first year on campus. He is a former top 100 recruit and was one of four members of Danny Hurley’s top 20 recruiting class in 2019.
The freshman’s numbers don’t immediately jump out at you but he has started all but one of UConn’s 24 games this season. Not too mention his 2.7 blocks per game is an impressive number for a true freshman.

The freshman returned to the bench in a boot to watch the rest of the game with his teammates. More information will certainly be known tomorrow when the results of the MRI come back. Those with UConn have hinted they do believe that the big man did in fact tear his Achilles. Coach Danny Hurley after the game was extremely emotional but praised the young big’s work ethic in discussing how strong he would come back from this.
