Kiernan “AKA” Forbes had passed away at 35 years old after being shot outside a restaurant in Durban, South Africa.
AKA was reportedly scheduled to perform at a nightclub in Durban, South Africa on Friday. Nearby the venue, the rapper was walking to his car when armed individuals shot him multiple times. His close friend and entrepreneur, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, was also hit and killed. There is no word as to where local police are in their investigation.
“It is with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son, and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the evening or February 10, 2023. We are awaiting further details from Durban police,” Forbes’ parents, Tony and Lynn, wrote.
“To us, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, most importantly father to his beloved daughter Kairo. To many, he was AKA, Supa Mega, Bhova and the many other names of affection his legion of fans called him by. Our son was loved and gave love in return.”
Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Kiernan “AKA” Forbes is an award-winning rapper and producer. After joining the KORA-nominated group Entity and the producer collective I.V. League, he kicked off a solo career that begins with the release of his Altar Ego. Over the last decade and change, the Cape Town native has released three solo LPs, one EP and a joint album with Anatii. He has also collaborated with the likes of Burna Boy, Nasty C and WizKid. AKA’s three solo albums have gone platinum in South Africa and he’s been recognized at the BET Awards and Kids’ Choice Awards.
Forbes was scheduled to release his fourth studio album, Mass Country, later this month. It is unclear if the LP will still be shared with fans.
