The award for best Rookie performance in the American and National Leagues has been announced as Shohei Ohtani was the best rookie in the American League and Ronald Acuña Jr. was the best rookie in the National League.
The candidates for the American League were Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres from the New York Yankees, and Ohtani from the Los Angeles Angels. In the National League, the candidates were Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals, Acuña Jr from the Atlanta Braves, and Walker Buehler from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The frontrunners in the American League were Andujar and Ohtani. In 2018, Ohtani had to deal with some injuries forcing him to be shut down from pitching, he started 10 games, had a 4-2 record with an ERA of 3.31 and while hitting he batted .285 with 22 home runs and 61 RBI’s for the Angels. Andujar hit .297 with 27 home runs and 92 RBI’s for the Yankees this year.
The frontrunners in the National League were Ronald Acuña Jr. and Juan Soto. Acuña Jr hit .293 with 26 home runs and 64 RBI’s for the Braves during the 2018 season. After an injury to Howie Kendrick, Juan Soto was called up and proceeded to shock the league with his performance in 2018, hitting .292 with 22 home runs and 70 RBI’s for the Nationals.
