And still, he persevered.
Working on new music may not be his proclivity, but 80purppp still found a way to release two of the most introspective tracks of the young year — “Hotel Lobby” and “Elevator Freestyle.” The former is a jazzy, hypnotic audible diary entry that lays the foundation of his forthcoming project, Suite 96. Through nearly four minutes, he reaches deep to discuss the death of his younger brother, his aunt’s miscarriage, lying to his manager and much more.
“Hotel Lobby was the first track we made for the upcoming project. It was the first time all the dots connected,” he said about the new track. Writing it was a journey because I wanted to tell a story I’m passionate about without over-explaining. The themes speak to the human experience—things that feel especially relevant right now.”
The latter began as a critique of elevator music, but turned out to be a more groovy and smooth look at himself, the awkwardness of elevator rides and all of the uncomfortable parts of adulthood.
“I feel like one of the worst parts of adulthood is realizing how scarce genuine elevator music is,” 80purppp said. “Getting in a silent elevator is just awkward. In my world, there’s elevator music in every elevator. This track is my ode to the genre.”
Suite 96 hasn’t been released just yet, but “Hotel Lobby” and “Elevator Music” set the stage for what promises to be a project that will make fans dance and think at the same time.
