2021 Four-Star Point Guard Zaon Collins committed to UNLV today. This is a massive win for UNLV coach TJ Otzelberger, who made Collins a priority recruit since taking over. Collins is a consensus top 40 player in the class of 2021, and is UNLV’s top-ranked recruit since Brandon McCoy joined the Running Rebels in 2017. Collins was down to UNLV, USC, Arizona and Arizona State, but chose UNLV in the end. A local recruit hailing from powerhouse Bishop Gorman, Collins looks to be the start of UNLV’s revival under head coach T. J. Otzelberger.
What Zaon Collins will bring to UNLV
UNLV is getting an all-around strong point guard, who should bring some serious skill and talent to a team in need of both. He is a strong floor general, who does an excellent job setting up teammates and finding opportunities. Zaon Collins is also a great athlete, who’s quickness allows him to stay in front of opponents on the defensive end and allow him to blow by defenders and get out on the break. Collin’s motor is also impressive, allowing him to have a high level of energy and play for long periods. His outside shot is a weakness and he release has been questioned by some, so we shall see how he improves. His frame is slight, but Collins has been adding strength which should help him come his first game at UNLV.
