After a memorable and successful 2016 NBA Summer League held in Las Vegas, Nevada, the NBA will look for a repeat this summer. As announced by an official NBA Press Release, a record 24 teams will participate in 2017 NBA Vegas Summer League, a tournament-style competition that will span 10 days in July:
A record 24 NBA teams will compete in NBA Summer League 2017 from July 7-17 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
For the fifth consecutive year, the 11-day, 67-game league will feature a tournament-style schedule, culminating in a Championship Game on the final day of competition.
Only 6 NBA teams will bypass participating in the 2017 Summer League: the Oklahoma City Thunder, Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Hornets, New York Knicks, and the Orlando Magic.
Last year, we a saw a plethora of breakout stars who were able to showcase their abilities and make the most out of their chance. Players on official NBA rosters that participate in summer league are usually buried deep in the depth chart so Summer League provides these players with an opportunity to show that they belong in this league.
After last year’s festivities shattered multiple attendance and viewer records, the NBA will be looking for the 2017 Summer League to live up to these expectations and then some.
