Iman Shumpert’s summer has been full of ups and downs. It started off with a shirtless victory parade celebrating the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA title, then it was followed up by the release of a new song and he also made an appearance in a Kanye West music video for ‘Fade’. He’s also had his share of issues, most recently dealing with a DUI arrest outside of Atlanta.
Despite Shumpert’s recent drama it appears he’s not shy about avoiding controversy. Recently, Victor Oladipo said that he wouldn’t be surprised if NBA players followed in the footsteps of Colin Kaepernick in a protest of the National anthem. Now it appears we have our first NBA player saying he will follow the path the 49ers quarterback laid out.
Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green all have agreed with Kaepernick’s protest but none have made a declaration quite like this. Iman Shumpert just dropped a new song titled ‘His Story’ and talked about a multitude of topics. But one topic most notably, for the right reasons, stood out more than anything else. Shumpert said, “You best believe I’m going to take me a knee for the anthem”, towards the end of his new track.

The only question now is will art imitate life? A lot of music lyrics don’t translate into real actions but this time it might be a real thing.
