Terence Crawford is preparing to begin the next chapter of his career. Nearly a year after earning a career-defining victory against Errol Spence Jr., the Omaha native has reportedly locked in his next fight. Moving up to a new division, the pound-for-pound star is reportedly set to challenge WBA Super Welterweight Champion Israil Madrimov on August 3, 2024 in Los Angeles, California at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Crawford heads to a new division after stopping Errol Spence Jr. in the seventh round of their undisputed welterweight title last July. Since then, he has reportedly cut ties with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) and entered free agency. Shortly after news of his PBC departure began to swirl around the social media sphere, Sebastian Fundora beat Tim Tszyu to capture the World Boxing Council’s piece of the 154-pound crown. Moving forward, it appears Fundora is destined to meet Tszyu in a rematch or battle former welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. In light of recent events, Crawford has elected to travel the WBA route for his first title shot in a new division.
Crawford’s latest opponent, Israil Madrimov, is 29-year-old Uzbekistan native with a record of 10-0-1 with seven stoppage wins. Madrimov picked up the WBA Super Welterweight Championship in March when he stopped Magomed Kubranov in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His showdown with Crawford will be his first foray into the Los Angeles and pay-per-view spotlight.
