Donald Glover may only getting older, but he may be getting better with age. Riding high off of the success of “This Is America” and Atlanta, Glover is currently heralded for his role in the new Star Wars’ Solo film. Glover may be taking the next step in his thespian journey very soon. As he is preparing for his tour with Rae Sremmurd, reports from Collider indicate that Glover is on a shortlist alongside Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller to play the iconic role of Willy Wonka.
According to Collider’s Jeff Sneider, “Glover has actively been chasing this role, and he’d certainly be a welcome change from Johnny Depp, who led Tim Burton‘s 2005 adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel.” Sneider also added, “He’s incredibly busy between his hit FX series Atlanta and his burgeoning music career, but on the film side, all he has coming up is the voice of Simba in Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King.” Despite reports looming over the film’s production, Sneider ended by writing, “Representatives for Warner Bros., Miller and Glover did not respond to requests for comment regarding this story, though that’s understandable, since it remains early in the casting process.”
In the meantime, Glover’s Solo is in the theaters, Glover will kick off his tour with Rae Sremmurd this August and the remake of Lion King will be released in 2019. What do you think? Would Glover make a dope Willy Wonka?
