Six years after posting a viral Twitter thread, A’Ziah Wells King’s wild Twitter thread will be released as a major film. Powered by A24, Zola is a wild ride that involves kidnapping, sex work, a suicide attempt and much more.
“Zola, a Detroit waitress, strikes up a new friendship with a customer, Stefani, who seduces her to join a weekend of dancing and partying in Florida. What at first seems like a glamorous trip full of ‘hoe-ism’ rapidly transforms into a 48-hour journey involving a nameless pimp, an idiot boyfriend, some Tampa gangsters, and other unexpected adventures in this wild, see-it-to-believe-it tale,” the official description states.
The film will feature Taylour Paige, Riley Keough and Colman Domingo. It debuted at the Sundance Film Festival last year and received rave reviews. Check out the trailer below and prepare for its release on June 30, 2021.
