Golden State Warriors center Zaza Pachulia has been the subject of some incriminating accusations. Pachulia is under fire for his suspect closeout of San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard, a play in which Leonard badly injured his ankle. The Spurs collapsed without their all-purpose forward and promptly lost the game 113-111. Leonard will also be unable to play in Game 2 at Oracle Arena.
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is not mincing words about the matter. He blasted Pachulia for the play that very well could decide the outcome of the Western Conference Finals. Pachulia had the opportunity to respond to the harsh criticism and explain his defensive mindset on that play.

Whether Zaza Pachulia intentionally moved in on Leonard with the hope he would land on his foot is unknown, and will remain that way. It is unfortunate if this one play is the difference between a competitive series and another “what if” scenario. The Warriors road back to the NBA Finals will be much easier if Leonard misses additional time. Even if he comes back in Game 3, it may be too late to turn the tides.
Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals is May 16th at 9pm EST on ESPN.
