The world of Hip-Hop has lost a number of young artists in the year 2018. This year, fans mourned the loss of Mac Miller, Jimmy Wopo, Young Greatness and many more. Among the many losses, this year was Florida musician, XXXTentacion. Known best for his breakout singles, “SAD!” and “Look At Me”, the young artist made his name through introspective music that touched thousands of young people across the country. Unfortunately, his life was cut short this year when he was killed in a robbery gone wrong.
Following his death, the Florida native received an outpouring of support from fans, friends, family and fellow musicians alike. Denzel Curry honored his close friend at a number of his live shows. Meek Mill honored the late rapper at the 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards. Close friends of his held a community service event in his honor as well.
In addition, controversy also came along with his death. Following his death, Vic Mensa seemingly took shots at the artist’s personal record when he rapped, “Your favorite rapper is a domestic abuser…[XXXTentacion] we know you won’t live that long.” Not long after, recordings surfaced of the late artist seemingly admitting to domestically abusing a woman and stabbing multiple people.
With all that has come with his death, focus has shifted back to XXXTentacion’s music. Last month, his estate dropped a new single called “Bad”. This month, his estate has decided to release his first posthumous album, Skins. The project comes in with ten tracks that last approximately twenty minutes.
