Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and more are all set to return for the X-Men sequel.
The Dark Phoenix saga is one of the most lauded runs in X-Men lore. Fans have been clamouring for a proper big screen adaptation ever since the beginning of the franchise. The story line was attempted in X-Men: The Last Stand back in 2006. But the film was nearly universally panned critics and hated by the fans. With many believing that the film shortchanged The Dark Phoenix storyline as a whole.
Fans everywhere rejoiced earlier this year when it was announced that there was going to be a proper Dark Phoenix adaptation but yet, there were lots of questions looming over the film. Such as, If the main x-men cast would be returning and who was going to direct the film. As of yesterday, both of those questions have been answered.
THR is reporting that the main cast from the most recent X-Men films will all be returning for the Dark Phoenix saga. With James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult all extending their contracts to return to the film. Sophie Turner, who debuted as Jean Grey in X-Men Apocalypse is also set to return. The film will mark the directorial debut of longtime mega producer Simon Kinberg who has overseen or written nearly all of the X-Men films dating back to 2006. The article also reveals that Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the villain in the film, Lilandra.
The film is set to debut in theatres in November of 2018.
