UPDATE (February 9, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. EST): New reports indicate Kevin Knox will also make the move from Detroit to San Francisco. However, insiders are unclear as to whether he will remain in the Bay or be moved yet again before the deadline.
The trade deadline is nearly here and NBA teams are making their final moves before 3 p.m. EST. At roughly 2 p.m. EST, Adam Wojnarowski of ESPN learned of a three-team deal involving the Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks and the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors. Leading the way, former Warriors lottery pick James Wiseman will head to Detroit, Michigan. In return, the Pistons will send 2020-2021 NBA All-Rookie Team Forward Saadiq Bey to the Atlanta Hawks. For their troubles, the Warriors pick up not one, but five second-round picks.
Wiseman heads to Detroit just a few months after winning his first NBA title in June. Despite being picked second in the 2020 NBA Draft, Wiseman has only played 60 games in three seasons with the franchise due to poor play and various injuries. In his first season, he was able to average 11.5 points and 5. rebounds per game while only playing in 39 games. Ultimately, he missed his second season in the NBA with an injury. Thus far this season, he has averaged less than 7 points and three rebounds per game.
Bey has been durable throughout his first three seasons in the NBA. In fact, he started in all 82 games last while averaging 16. points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. This season, he has played in 52 of Detroit’s games while averaging 14.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
With Bey headed to Atlanta, Wiseman going to Detroit and the Warriors adding a starting five of picks, the deadline is near. However, teams aren’t done just yet. In addition to picking up Bey, the Hawks have traded Justin Holiday and Frank Kaminsky to Houston for Garrison Matthews and Bruno Fernando.
