Def Pen is bridging the gap between cannabis pop culture through its latest Twitter Spaces conversation.
On March 23, 2023, Def Pen Culture Editor Ryan Shepard will interview Josephine & Billie’s Founder and CEO Whitney Beatty. In this conversation, Beatty and Shepard will talk about the growing cannabis industry, her evolving business, receiving support from Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter’s Parent Company and much more.
Beatty is a Michigan native who attended Creston High School in Grand Rapids and Michigan State University in East Lansing. After obtaining a degree in theater and broadcast journalism, she embarked on a career in entertainment that took her an entry-level role at William Morris Agency to a Senior Vice President of Development at Warner Brothers. In 2015, she formally made the jump from entertainment to cannabis as she founded Apothecarry Brands, Inc., a Los Angeles-based lifestyle brand that designs and sells high quality, high-end herb & tobacco accouterments for the cannabis connoisseur. Four years into her cannabis journey, the Michigan native expanded her business empire to open the doors of Josephine & Billie’sm a cannabis speakeasy designed by women of color for women of color.
“Most stores are designed and built by white people with one perspective. And women of color rarely get the opportunity to feel comfortable in those spaces,” Josephine & Billie’s COO Ebony Anderson said.
“But Josephine & Billie’s was designed and built by, and for, women of color with that in mind.”
Beatty’s conversation will kick off on March 23, 2023, at 5 p.m. via Twitter Spaces. To set a reminder, please click here.
