The COVID-19 pandemic is not over by any stretch of the imagination. However, the nation is headed in a positive direction. Nearly 40% of all American citizens have been fully vaccinated against the virus. Adding on, the daily amount of new coronavirus cases has fallen to its lowest point since last summer.
Over the last two weeks, the United States has recorded approximately 32,000 new COVID-19 cases per day. On Thursday, the United States totaled fewer than 30,000 new coronavirus cases since last year.
While the number of COVID-19 cases has declined across the country, there are still a few areas still in the thick of the pandemic. Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi have all reported daily COVID-19 case counts that are above the national average.
Moving forward, the White House is pushing for more Americans to be vaccinated. Thus far, Our World In Data reports that 128 million Americans have been fully vaccinated. President Joe Biden hopes to have more than 70% of the country vaccinated by Independence Day Weekend.
