The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announced today that freshman guard Jalek Felton has been suspended by the school. Felton is best known as the nephew of former Carolina great and current NBA point guard Raymond Felton. The freshman reserve guard was averaging 2.9 points per game and 1.6 assists per game. Felton will not be allowed to participate in any school activities but has not been kicked out of school.
The school has declined to comment about the suspension citing federal privacy laws. Felton’s attorney is Kerry Sutton of Durham, North Carolina and has made a few things more clear about the incident.
Jalek Felton is an extraordinary young man & an exemplary student athlete at @UNC. The support he’s getting from @UNC_Basketball fans and friends today means the world to him. We’ll get him back in class & on the court where he belongs as soon as we can. pic.twitter.com/4jNsG6awLe

Sutton has also made it clear that just because she specializes in sexual misconduct people should not assume anything about the Felton case. She has also made it clear that this type of suspension is typical when universities gather information. There isn’t a lot of information about the Felton case at the moment, and this may not be resolved for a while. North Carolina fans will continue to hope that this interim suspension will be solved with the clearing of Felton’s name.
This could become incredibly frustrating for the Tar Heels as they move forward with their season and if it extends into next season it could be an even bigger one. Joel Berry will be graduating and Roy Williams was going to be focusing even more on Seventh Woods and Jalek Felton.
