Former all-pro safety Tyrann Mathieu will be signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. Mathieu, who played with the Houston Texans last season, was a free agent and was expected to stay put but the reported three-year, 42 million dollar deal was enough to lure Honey Badger away from Houston.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first to report the signing.

Rapoport also reported the specifics of the signing shortly thereafter.
The #Chiefs are signing former #Texans S Tyrann Mathieu to a 3-year deal worth $42M, source said. This was their top target in free agency, prying him from the #Texans.

With the signing, the Chiefs add some much-needed talent to the defensive side of the ball. While having one of the league’s most impressive offenses, Kansas City had little to no answer when it came to stopping opposing offenses. With a good draft and some key free agent signings, the Chiefs will further strengthen the defense. That combined with returning MVP quarterback Pat Mahomes at the helm, they will be in good position to make another run at the championship.
