Head Coach Richard Pitino and the New Mexico Lobos have landed the commitment of 2023 four-star shooting guard Tru Washington. He is the uncle of former Kentucky Wildcats and current Houston Rockets guard TyTy Washington. While he is not a likely “one and done” prospect he does have the talent to one day join his nephew in the NBA. New Mexico is building a tougher program under the leadership of Pitino and adding a recruit that will likely stay multiple years and contribute as a freshman is a great move. The 2023 class does not have many four-star players left and adding one here is a great move.

Tru Washington is ranked on the composite rankings as the 81st recruit and tenth shooting guard in the 2023 recruiting class. Washington is the second recruit to commit to New Mexico in the 2023 class. He joins four-star power forward Jadyn Toppin as the two recruits that have committed to Richard Pitinio in the 2023 class at this time. They still have some offers out to a few recruits that could end up committing and can also hit the transfer portal in the offseason.
Tru Washington is a talented shooting guard from a good high school program in Arizona named Compass Prep. While he may not be an immediate NBA prospect, his level of play could start getting him looks down the road in his college career. Richard Pitino continues to be a talented recruiter and Head Coach.
