Travis Scott is sitting atop the charts once again. His latest single, “4×4,” debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, beating out “Die With A Smile” by Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars. The release of the new track coupled with his performance at the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship puts Scott back into the limelight after taking some time off following the conclusion of the Circus Maximus Tour in October. As chatter about his next album grows louder, the Texas native offered some insight about the forthcoming project with Billboard‘s Carl Lamarre.
“Where are you heading musically on your next album?” Lamarre asked.
“I want to say the title right now, but people aren’t going to understand it. I have some more tweaking to do,” Scott answered.
“Fair. But where are you going sonically?” Lamarre followed up.
“I feel like for Utopia, I was striving to push things to a high level. I’m still reaching for that. I’ve been having so much fun with music and s–t that I think it’s cool to be artistic and have fun with it. I’ve been producing more, making a lot of the album, and going in on that level is making it more exciting. I can’t wait, actually,” Scott elaborated.
Released in 2023, Utopia was the highly-anticipated follow-up to Scott’s GRAMMY Award-nominated LP, Astroworld. The 19-track project featured everyone from Drake to Beyoncé with standouts like “I Know?” and “Telekinesis” featuring SZA and Future. After working with many of the world’s biggest stars to complete his last album, Travis Scott still has a few names on his bucket list as he continues to shape his next project.
“At this point in your career, is there anyone left that you want to get into the studio with?” Lamarre asked.
“Yeah, it’s this band called Khruangbin I want to work with. This might be crazy, but I would love to get Taylor Swift or Sabrina Carpenter on a hook,” Scott said. “I have some ill ideas.”
