Daystar “Tory Lanez” Peterson has been found guilty of the following charges: carrying an unregistered firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Having been found guilty of the aforementioned charges, Peterson faces more than 20 years in prison.
The charges levied against Peterson are tied to an incident that occurred more than two years ago. On July 12, 2020, Peterson, Megan “Meg Thee Stallion” Pete and her former assistant, Kelsey Nicole Harris, traveled to Kylie Jenner’s home in Hollywood Hills, California. Upon arriving at Jenner’s home, the trio moved to the pool. As the gathering came to an abrupt conclusion and the trio moved back to their car, a disagreement began to arise. Ultimately, the altercation became violent and Megan Thee Stallion accused Tory Lanez of shooting her.
Following the incident, accusations levied against Megan Thee Stallion, Tory Lanez and Kelsey Nicole Harris became public fodder for social media, talk show discourse and beyond. Despite public conversation and social chatter, Tory Lanez maintained his innocence and Megan Thee Stallion reaffirmed her initial accusation several times.
“We are confident that at the conclusion of this trial the truth will come out and Mr. Peterson will be exonerated of all charges,” Tory Lanez’s attorney, Sarkis Manukyan, said.
“She’s a victim of a shooting and that’s what this case is about and that’s the truth. End of story,” Megan Thee Stallion’s attorney, Alex Shapiro, said one week later.
Beginning December 13, Tory Lanez stood trial for the following felony charges: carrying an unregistered firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. After hearing the evidence presented by both the prosecution and defense, the jury began deliberating on December 22. Nearly two days later, the jury found the Toronto musician guilty of all three felony charges levied against him.
