Daystar “Tory Lanez” Peterson will be transported to a state prison in California after being denied bail as his legal team attempts to appeal the 10-year sentence he received earlier this year.
“As an organization committed to promoting justice and equality, we firmly believe in standing by our clients and supporting them in times of need,” a statement from Peterson’s legal representatives reads.
“Mr. Peterson has been an integral part of our advisory board, contributing his time, resources, and expertise to further our cause. It is now our turn to stand by him and ensure that he receives a fair and just legal process.”
Peterson’s legal troubles stem from an incident that occurred in the Hollywood Hills on July 12, 2020. While leaving a social gathering, the singer is accused of engaging in an altercation with rapper Megan “Meg Thee Stallion” Pete that resulted in the Houston native being shot in the foot. Months later, Peterson was tried and subsequently convicted on charges related to the incident. As a result, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. His legal representatives at Unite the People Inc. argue that the sentence is disproportionate and will move forward with an appeal.
“We firmly believe in the power of the legal system and the impact it can have on achieving justice,” a statement from the organization reads.
“Unite the People Inc. will do all it can to ensure that justice prevails.”
