Tory Lanez made headlines over the weekend because he took a stand against colorism. During the video shoot, Tory Lanez confronted a video staffer who swapped out a model with darker skin for a woman with lighter skin. The Canadian musician eventually got his way and the darker skinned women was kept in the shot.
After the video shoot, he took to Instagram to post a video of the interaction with a thoughtful caption. He wrote, “This is an ongoing problem in our community of entertainment that needs to stop.” He later added, “It is our responsibility as artist[s] to stand up and not let this happen. It been time to embrace our woman of color.”

A few hours after the incident went viral, two of the models at the video shoot took to social media to call out Tory Lanez. Both models involved stated that the incident was allegedly staged. A model using the Instagam moniker, Sultry Shen, took to her Instagram account to dispute Tory’s claims. She wrote, “Where is the scene if Tory Lanez wanted me so bad? The director is the best director I know. [This is] fake news.” The second model, Alisia Dixonn, commented on Instagram, “He asked for both the dark skin girl and light skin girl. This [is] clearly a publicity stunt to cover himself.”
Tory Lanez allegedly tried to contact one of the woman involved, but she declined to speak with him. He nor his team has publicly commented on the women’s rebuttal as of yet.
