Newly reclassified point guard Cam Hayes didn’t take long to make his decision after joining the 2020 class, ending his recruitment by picking the NC State Wolfpack on Friday night. The other major contender for Hayes’ services was Louisville, where he was set to visit on September 21st. He also received significant interest from Maryland, Tennessee, and Indiana, among others.

Hayes was a five-star prospect in the class of 2021 prior to his reclassification and now sits at 45th overall in the 247sports composite rankings for 2020. The guard has earned a reputation as a high-level scorer and backed it up when he averaged 20.2 points per game on 42.9% shooting over five games at the Peach Invitational in July. He’s also more than capable as a distributor, which was demonstrated by his 5.5 assists to 2.8 turnovers per game on the EYBL circuit this year.
The local product joins three-star forward Nick Farrar another prospect from North Carolina, in NC State’s 2020 class. With Markell Johnson, the Wolfpack’s point guard and star player, set to graduate after the upcoming season, Hayes figures to have a significant role in the offense as soon as he steps foot in Raleigh.
