THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974)
Stars: Gunnar Hansen, Marilyn Burns, William Vail
Quote: “If I have any more fun today I don’t think I can take it!”
Synopsis: Five friends on a road trip visit their Grandfathers old home and end up being terrorized and tortured by a chainsaw wielding killer and his family.
Scare Factor: I am so glad I am not going to their house for Thanksgiving this year because what they lack in social skills, they make up for in hardware. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a beloved horror film that has seen countless remakes and sequels over the years. Each film is jam packed with gore, bones and dismembered body parts that it looks like Christmas came early for Jeffrey Dahmer (Too soon?). But what really takes this film to classic horror film is its realism. The documentary style filming has easily fooled people over generations into believing these events actually took place. And nothing is quite as terrifying than hearing a chainsaw start in complete darkness. Thank you Leatherface, for making yard work a little more terrifying.
