In two weeks, The Little Mermaid, starring Halle Bailey, will debut in theaters around the world. As the global debut nears, Disney hosted a red carpet premiere in Los Angeles with the cast and special guests. Following the red carpet premiere, critics shared their first thoughts on the film.
“I was blown away by The Little Mermaid. Some visual issues aside, it’s the most romantic and, dare I say, magical Disney has been in years. The best live-action remake by a mile. Daveed Diggs is the MVP. Halle Bailey is a superstar, and her Part of Your World is a showstopper,” Brandon Lewis of Geek Vibes Nation tweeted.

“Halle Bailey was born to play Ariel. Her siren vocals alongside her gentle and confident charisma aid [in] a knockout performance in The Little Mermaid. She is the embodiment of a Disney princess and brown-skinned girls will dare to dream bigger because of her portrayal,” Terry Carter Jr. commented.
“The Little Mermaid is the best Disney live-action adaptation to date. Halle Bailey is Ariel. Major props to the sound effects team. Good changes, though one new song with too much autotune. Could watch this version’s Under the Sea all day, it was the highlight of the whole thing,” Gillian Blum of Washington Square News added.
The world will have an opportunity to offer their reviews of the film when it arrives in theaters on May 26, 2023. Until then, check out the film’s latest trailer below.
