Despite popular belief, the writers of The Bear are not looking to create any romantic moments involving the show’s two leading characters. During a recent sit-down with Vanity Fair, Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri shot down the idea of a romantic relationship for their two characters, Syd and Carmy.
“There was no talk in the rooms about any romantic implications [between Carmy and Sydney],” White explained.
Instead, the two will enter into a business relationship. As it turns out, navigating a business partnership can be just as complicated.
“Carmy is somebody that I think she’s really looked up to, but now is sort of in the thick of doing business with,” Edebiri said.
“And it’s, I think, a lot more chaotic than she might have idealized before they really started working together.”
From White’s perspective, Carmy is not the best communicator. As a result, navigating a business relationship can be difficult.
“[He’s] not the best communicator, but he will often make a sort of grand gesture like that to try and communicate to Syd or the kitchen or whomever,” White said.
“He’s got a lot going on in his mind all the time, and people aren’t always aware of exactly what’s going on. You’ll see, obviously, how that affects Carmen and Syd’s relationship, but I think Carmen’s trying to welcome her in a little bit was the point of the partnership agreement.”
Season three of The Bear will debut on Wednesday, June 26 at 9 p.m. EST on Hulu.
