Tems has unveiled the official video for “Burning,” the third track from her most recent project, Born In The Wild. The subdued, neo-soul soundscape of the nearly three-minute track find the beguiling Nigerian heartthrob singing about the often overlooked ills of transitioning from local sensation to global star.
“It was all a dream. Just a new girl on the scene. Got your face on magazines. How it feel? It’s killing me. But do you care to see? Plenty fire in my eyes. Just the way I like to be. Will I stay, will I leave?” she sings over the track she made in tandem with Guilty Beatz.
“I could figure out myself. When I’m distant in my world. I could hold on to the past. And be absolutely mad. But I let go of my sins. Just searchin’ for my wings. If you know where I’ll find it. I would take a limousine.”
The self-directed visuals mirror the vulnerable lyrics of the Born In The Wild single. Tems can be seen walking through the busy, jam-packed streets of Manhattan she’s lost in reflection and unaffected by those watching her. The montage of scenes from New York’s busiest borough are the perfect backdrop as Tems effortlessly stands out, singing while donning a white top and steely Black jacket. Showing the world through her lens, Tems provides a snapshot of what it’s like to be thrust into stardom while dealing with all of the pressures of everyday life.
“Burning” arrives as Tems gears up for the Born In The Wild Tour, set to begin on August 22, 2024 in Miami, Florida. Afterward, she’s set to stop in Orlando, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and 15 other cities before things come to an end in Sydney, Australia on Friday, November 15.
