Last fall, Memphis native Tay Keith entered the world of academia as an honorary professor at his alma mater, Tennessee State University.
“[I want to shoutout] my alma mater [for] acknowledging my team [and I] and letting me come educate and motivate the youngins who [are] in the same shoes I was in just a few years ago. Respect [has] always been [something] that’s earned and [not] given and real ones [will] always win in the end,” he wrote on social media as he accepted this honor.
As the school year comes to a close in Nashville, Tennessee, it appears that Tay Keith is preparing to make the most of his summer. First up, he has delivered a new single called “Lights Off” with Lil’ Durk and Gunna. Produced by the Memphis native, the smooth, guitar infused track allows Gunna and Lil’ Durk to do what they do best.
“Look at how far we made it/I told ’em they thought I was crazy/Young Gunna been hot/I jumped in the spot and got raided/I custom the watch, two-tone the Prezi and Elliot made it,” Gunna raps.
“I ain’t gon’ lie, surrounded by some killers, I can’t go live/I ain’t gon’ lie, fightin’ a murder with a public defendant, you better not try/I need a trapper b*tch, ain’t tryna trap a b*tch, runnin’ her mouth for sh*t,” Lil’ Durk adds in the second verse.
“Lights Off” is just a taste of what’s to come. Tay Keith promises to deliver more new music this summer, so this will serve as an appetizer. Check out the track below.
