Actress and producer Taraji P. Henson is reportedly developing a series inspired by her Empire character Loretha “Cookie” Lyon. The series is expected to be a part of her first-look deal at 20th Century Fox Television.
As of now, it is unclear what the series will be about. Variety reports that it will focus on “what’s next for Cookie.” What we do know is that Henson will produce in the series and star in it.
As previously mentioned, Henson recently signed a two-year first-look deal with 20th Century Fox Television through her production company, TPH Entertainment. Through the deal, she will develop projects for the network across multiple platforms. Henson hopes to tackle a number of sensitive topics while cultivating young, fresh voices.
“I believe that normalizing stories around stigmatizing matters will make them more palatable for audiences to embrace. Art can change perception and I plan to develop projects that can help further the conversation,” Henson said.
“I also aim to help cultivate and establish new young talent and their stories because they are our future and deserve a voice and a platform to be heard. I’m so excited to have 20th, led by the talented Carolyn Cassidy, support me in this new endeavor,” she adds.
Empire ended its six-season run this spring. There are no further plans for other spin-offs at this time.
