Top 2018 recruit, Taeshon Cherry ended his recruitment and committed on Jan 16 to Bobby Hurley’s Arizona State Sun Devils. Cherry, out of Foothills Christian (CA) is a versatile and skilled 6-8 small forward who picked Arizona State over USC, UCLA, Texas A&M and Gonzaga.
Cherry is ranked as the 27th overall prospect in the class of 2018 per 247 Sports and is ranked in the top 40 in all major recruiting services. He’ll be joining fellow commits Luguentz Dort and international prospect, Elias Valtonen to form a strong 2018 recruiting class for a rising Arizona State program.
Per 247 Sport’s Evan Daniels and Josh Gershon:
“I’m going to Arizona State and I picked them because I feel like coach [Bobby] Hurley is a great coach,” Cherry said. “When I went on that official a couple of days ago and it felt like home to me,” he said. “They treated me like family. He’s a fiery competitor and it’s just what I wanted. He’s everything I wanted and more. Me and him really bonded together.”
Cherry originally committed to USC following the July evaluation period but both parties opted to part ways with the in December due to a potential link with the ongoing FBI investigation involving college basketball.
Playing for the Oakland Soldiers on the Nike EYBL circuit this summer, Cherry averaged 12.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while leading his team to a Peach Jam title.
