More than five years ago, SZA set the world on fire with the release of her debut studio album, Ctrl. The 14-track project included hits like “Love Galore” and “The Weekend” along with guest vocals from Isaiah Rashad, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott among others. Not only did the project earn nearly 50 million streams during its first week, but it also became her first LP to debut in the top ten of the Billboard 200. Along with a Saturday Night Live showcase and a world tour, it quickly became SZA’s breakout project and her most successful album yet.
A lot has happened since Ctrl dropped in 2017. TDE has spearheaded the Black Panther soundtrack, Kendrick Lamar has parted ways with the label and the record imprint has added acts like Doechii, Reason, Zacari and Ray Vaughn. As it pertains to SZA, things have been a bit murky. She’s had her fair share of tweets for her label heads and she’s openly complained about how her music has been handled. Still, the New Jersey native has put out records like “Hit Different” with Ty Dolla $ign and “Kiss Me More” with Doja Cat. Not to be forgotten, she’s collaborated with Doechii, Future and others.
Now, it appears that SZA is prepared to release the next single from her forthcoming sophomore album. Tonight, the TDE songstress delivered the “Shirt” video with Lakeith Stanfield. Check out the new visual below.
