In life, “firsts” are incredibly important. Every writer remembers publishing their first interview and every quarterback remembers throwing their first touchdown pass. For artists, “firsts” are even important. First albums, singles and of course, videos, set the tone for what fans can expect. For example, SZA set the tone for her the remainder of her career by delivering CTRL as a debut album and Lil’ Nas X made waves by dropping “Old Town Road” as his first commercial single. In the case of Skyler Rossa, her first video may set the town for what fans of the rising artist can expect moving forward.
Directed by Nsomtog, “Fire” is the first official music video release from the Philadelphia creative. Both sultry and captivating, the “Fire” video connects well with the dark-sounding record. Above all else, “Fire” stands out because of the lightning and different color schemes. Whether it’s the flashing lights that play the background as the camera zooms in on her eyes or the all red bed bedroom, “Fire” is visually appetizing.
From a music perspective, “Fire” also delivers in a major way. The production on this record is vastly different from the previous single covered at Def Pen, “ALYK.” NICKCHOU and Yobi Bryant provide a more hard-hitting sound that takes Skyler Rossa and “Fire” to the next level.
From the visuals to the single, “Fire” delivers in every way that a first release needs to. Check out the full video below.
