Redick, one of the league’s premier three-point shooters, will play in Philadelphia for a second consecutive season. His newly formed salary is dramatically lower than last season’s figure, where he signed a one-year deal worth $23 million.
The Sixers lost out on marquee free agent LeBron James on July 1, and momentum towards a potential Kawhi Leonard deal has reportedly slowed. The team quickly worked to re-sign it’s starting two-guard in the early hours on Monday.
Redick, 34, stated his hopes of retiring with the Sixers organization multiple times throughout the past year. He averaged a career-high 17.1 points per game in 70 contests this season, shooting 46 percent from the floor and 42 percent from 3-point territory.
The Sixers still have roughly $14 million in cap space to worth with after Redick’s deal, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks. Redick can veto any trade this season because of his one-year bird restriction.
Philadelphia lost free agents Marco Belinelli to San Antonio and Ersan Ilyasova to Milwaukee this weekend, making their wish to re-sign a sharpshooter like Redick imperative.
