If you’ve been paying attention to any new music coming out of the DMV over the past few months, it’s been impossible to miss Shy Glizzy. The Washington, D.C. based rapper kicked off 2017 with his fan favorite verse on Goldlink‘s “Crew”. The momentum from that record carried him into late 2017 when he dropped “Dope Boy Magic” featuring A Boogie and Trey Songz. From there, Shy Glizzy gave fans his Quiet Storm mixtape, which included features from Dave East, Trey Songz and A Boogie. Glizzy kicked off 2018 with a Grammy nomination and he’s continuing his run into the summer of 2018 with his new single, “Do You Understand?”
Featuring Tory Lanez and Atlanta’s Gunna, “Do You Understand?” is a Turbo produced summer anthem that will definitely rock cookouts and parties across the DMV for the entire summer. Shy Glizzy handles the hook by rapping, “You want a check, first you gotta have a plan/And she soaking wet, she drippin’ God damn/My little butter pecan, she got a tan/Girl you need a man, and you need them bands/And y’all need a plan/And y’all can’t be planed/Do you understand, what the f*ck that I’m sayin’?” Tory Lanez comes in on the second verse and lets you know he’s “got hunnids and money bands, yeah/In the back of the van, ooh/I used to eat out the can, flew/Straight from a fly to Sudan, two/Bad lil’ b*tches done fucked me, they know what the plan, the plan is.” Gunna closes out the record on the third verse when he raps, “You gon’ get rich or just live at your rank/Got 3-0-4 watches still no time to wait/And start lookin’ at it I know what you think/You gon’ ride or die, homie down to grave.”
