Over the last decade, we have seen the meteoric rise of a new sub-genre of R&B that is marked by dark, mysterious narratives and sounds. Leading the way, The Weeknd has cemented himself as pioneer of this sub-genre and a Pop star. In addition, we’ve seen acts like PARTYNEXTDOOR and Majid Jordan also advance the movement. More recently, we’ve seen the rise of artists like Dvsn and Roy Woods. Currently, there is another artist working to stand out in the crowded landscape of R&B by the name of Shy Girls.
No, Shy Girls is not a group. In fact, it’s just one talented man based in Portland, Oregon. The Portland based artist first made waves back in 2013 with the release of his project, Timeshare. In the months that followed the release of Timeshare, Shy Girls opened up for Haim, Maxwell and Little Dragon. In addition, he shined at festivals like Lollapalooza and Music Fest NW. After touring the world, he came back with anther project in 2015 called 4WZ. Unfortunately, he’s been fairly quiet since then.
Luckily, Shy Girls is back with a brand new project called Bird On The Wing. Released on RCA Records, the Portland based artist has ushered in eleven new songs with standouts like “Lazy Boy”, “Stay Home” and “Finding Your God”. Listen to the full project above and let us know what you think.
