It looks like all roads lead to Ireland. Shortly after Amanda Serrano defeated Erika Cruz to claim the undisputed featherweight title, Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing set the stage for the Puerto Rican champion’s next fight. Barring any unforeseen setbacks, Serrano is set to challenge Katie Taylor the undisputed lightweight title on May 20, 2023 in Ireland. Croke Park in Dublin is eyed as the ideal venue for the bout, but promoters are still looking to lock down a home for the event.
Serrano and Taylor previously fought each other at Madison Square Garden in April. As two of the greatest fighters in the world, the duo was able to attract the likes of Claressa Shields, Laila Ali and Rosie Perez to the Big Apple. With a packed crowd seated around the ring, the two champions put on a show with Taylor claiming a few of the early rounds. Then, the Puerto Rican champion began landing a number of heavy shots in the third round before badly hurting her opponent in the fifth round. The Irish fighter was able to bounce back in a few of the later rounds before the two went all out in round ten. Ultimately, two of the judges scored the bout in favor of Taylor while the other judge scored it in favor of Serrano.
The first fight was held in Serrano’s backyard of New York. This time around, it looks like Taylor will get to fight in Ireland for the first time in her career.
“This is more than a dream come true — my debut in Ireland against Amanda Serrano, ‘The Real Deal’ Amanda Serrano,” Taylor said, per ESPN.
“This is incredible and as I said, the last fight was epic, and I expect nothing less for the next one.”
