If you don’t know who Sectiontoo is, you should probably get on that. Fortunately, he has a new single called “Honeybun” that’ll help you get started.
The emerging artist known as Sectiontoo is rooted in the city of New York. He was raised on a steady diet of early Backstreet Boys albums, Now, That’s What I Call R&B CDs and radio mixes filled with classic Notorious B.I.G Records. This gumbo of boy band pop and raps about how to hustle until you’re sitting on a money-green leather sofa watching a 50-inch screen TV manifested into a dynamic singer, producer and songwriter who’s made music for Spike Lee projects and shooting music videos in front of the Bushwick Deli. A deal with Viper Records and nearly 20,000 monthly Spotify listeners later, he’s still here to remind everyone that not much has changed. He’s still rooted in the City of Dreams as strives to create the music that will make his come true.
“I used to walk to the store, honeybun with the change. Now, I’m sitting on a honeybun. Ain’t nothing change,” he says as he settles into a pocket of good.will and Chedda’s production.
While less than two minutes, Sectiontoo’s latest release does a lot in advancing his musical journey. “Honeybun” doesn’t ask the New York-based talent to display his vocal talents like “Black Thing” and it’s a bit more mellow than the “Switch” freestyle. Instead, it continues the trajectory of his recent “Max B (Freestyle),” mellow and easygoing while displaying his ability to effortlessly float over a track. To put the cherry on top, each verse is packed with caption worthy lines like “She’s in love with a n*gga. I’m not like the next man” and an etheral bridge that leads into the final performance of the chorus.
“Honeybun” doesn’t sound like it was made to a top the Billboard Hot 100, even though that would be nice. Instead, it’s something that keeps you calm, optimistic and chasing you dreams even on rainy New York day like today. In short, it’s a vibe.
