ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ host Robin Robert is set to achieve another accomplishment in her illustrious career and will receive the third annual Sager Strong Award this year. The news was revealed on Monday’s edition of ‘Good Morning America’ when the NBA on TNT crew had a special message for Roberts.

Roberts will be receiving the award for being a ‘trailblazer personifying faith, courage, compassion and grace.’ Roberts will be the third ever winner of the award after it was introduced in 2017, less than a year after Sager’s death. Monty Williams took home the honor for the first time in 2017 while NBA Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo earned the honor last year.
Considering all Craig Sager stood for and the determination he showed later in his career as his health worsened, Robin Roberts is an extremely fitting recipient for this special honor. Roberts was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and just five years later learned she had myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare blood disorder.
Though Roberts’ health has vastly improved compared to years ago, the immense courage she has shown should not be overlooked. Roberts has received multiple awards during her reporting career, including the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism and the title of Most Trusted Woman in Television. Roberts will be honored with the Sager Strong Award during the NBA Awards Show set to be held on June 24.
